Purpose

This document provides information about using BrightStor ARCserve Backup to restore at the database level to recovery storage groups. For more information about Database-level restore operations, see the chapter Database Level Backup and Restore in the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Windows Agent for Microsoft Exchange Guide.

Scope

This information in this document relates to the following versions of BrightStor ARCserve Backup:

  • BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Windows r11.1

  • BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Windows r11.5

Restore Mail Stores to Microsoft Exchange 2003 Recovery Storage Groups

To restore data perform the following procedure

  1. Create the recovery storage group on the Microsoft Exchange 2003 server. For information about creating recovery storage groups on Microsoft Exchange 2003, see MS Q Article 824126 at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;824126&Product=exch2003

  2. From the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Restore Manager Source tab, select Restore by Session from the dropdown list.

  3. Expand the Full Backup Session and select the storage group to view the available stores

Note: The storage group cannot be expanded.

  4. Select the mailbox store to be restored, right-click, and select Agent Options from the pop-up menu.

The Backup Agent Restore Options dialog appears.

  5. Clear the checkboxes for the default options Automatically Dismount Database Before Restore and Allow Database to be Overwritten by Restore and click OK

Important! The options Automatically Dismount Database Before Restore and Allow Database to be Overwritten by Restore do not apply when you restore databases to recovery storage groups. If you select these options, the agent automatically dismounts the production database and activates the Exchange database setting The database Can Be Overwritten by a Restore.

  6. On the Destination tab of the Restore Manager, select the destination server and perform one of the following actions to select the recovery storage group target server:

*NOTE: Exchange Information Store automatically redirects all restore operations to the recovery storage group when the recovery storage group exists on the Microsoft Exchange server.

    • If the recovery storage group resides on the original Exchange server, enable the Restore Files to their Original Location(s) option.

    • If the recovery storage group resides on a different Exchange server, perform the following steps:

      1. Disable the Restore Files to their Original Location(s) option

      2. From the network, or the Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 Systems object, expand the target Exchange server and select the MS Exchange Server-Database Level (IS) object.

Note: The MS Exchange Server-Database Level (IS) object cannot be expanded to select the recovery storage group

  7. Submit the job.
